

1. RECREATIONAL FOIL FENCING FOR CHILDREN (AGES 6-8) Activity Code: 3140.201
Time: 1 hour
Frequency: Once a week, 8 weeks, Friday morning, 9:30 - 10:30 June 27 - Aug 22 (no class 7/4)

This course will explore the history, rules and fundamental techniques of foil fencing, one of the oldest and most popular Olympic sports. Students will learn fundamental footwork as well as offensive and defensive techniques of the classical French style of foil fencing, and will practice basic fencing skills as well as drills and games that encourage the development of fencing tactics and strategy. (Note: All essential equipment will be provided by the instructors, but students will be required to wear comfortable pants as well as athletic shoes. Shorts or jeans will not be permitted. Club equipment will include foils with a French grip only.

Frequency: Once a week, 8 weeks, Tuesday 3:00 - 5:00 PM July 1 - Aug 19

This course is designed for the competitive foil fencer with an emphasis on developing and sharpening the skills needed to be successful in foil competition. One year of prior competition experience is required. The course will review fundamental fencing techniques and will explore new tactics and strategies for fencing competition. Students will have ample opportunity to apply what is learned during practice bouts, which will be fenced both “dry” and with the use of electric scoring equipment. (Note: All necessary equipment will be provided by the club, but fencers who already have their own equipment are encouraged to use it, provided it meets safety standards. Only French grip foils will be provided. Fencers who wish to use weapons with “pistol” grips must bring their own foils. Comfortable pants and athletic shoes are required, and students must have their own fencing gloves and underarm protectors. No shorts or jeans will be permitted.)
5. ADULT RECREATIONAL FOIL FENCING - (AGES 18+) Activity Code: 3945.201
Time: 2 hours
Frequency: Once a week, 8 weeks, Mondays, 7:00 - 9:00 PM June 30 - August 18

(Note: All essential equipment will be provided by the instructors, but students will be required to wear comfortable pants as well as athletic shoes. Shorts or jeans will not be permitted. Club equipment will include foils with a French grip only. Experienced students who wish to use foils with orthopedic grips will have to bring their own foils.) Class will be divided into sections if multiple skills levels are represented.
6. RECREATIONAL FENCING: OPEN GYM
Time: 6:00-8:30PM Year-round
Frequency: Wednesday evenings

Cost: Included with enrollment in recreational foil fencing or competitive scholastic fencing courses;
single-night floor fee of $5 ($7 non-resident) for non-BPFC fencers
Prerequisite: Completion of a minimum of two recreational fencing sessions or BPFC Coach approval.
This time slot is designed for both competitive and recreational foil/epee fencers with an emphasis on providing ample opportunity to apply what was learned in previous lessons during practice bouts, which will be fenced both “dry” and with the use of electric scoring equipment. (Note: All necessary equipment will be provided by the club, but fencers who already have their own equipment are encouraged to use it, provided it meets safety standards. Club equipment will include foils with a French grip only. Experienced students who wish to use foils with orthopedic grips will have to bring their own foils. Only students who have their own electric equipment will be permitted to fence on the electric strips. Comfortable pants and athletic shoes are required, and students must have their own fencing gloves and underarm protectors. No shorts or jeans will be permitted.)
